       On June 13, 2016, DOE issued the Energy Efficiency Regulation for Battery Chargers: EERE-2008-BT-STD-0005-0256, and updated 10 CFR Parts 429, 430 (Test Methods and Requirements for Battery Charging Systems) for consumer products, including battery chargers integrated with terminal products. Together, such as mobile phones and digital cameras and other products.

Effective / execution date

        The regulations came into force on August 12, 2016 and the enforcement date was June 13, 2018. That is to say, since June 13, 2018, a large number of products containing rechargeable batteries must meet the requirements of DOE battery chargers to enter the United States market.

Main requirements

        Battery chargers produced after June 13, 2018 must meet the maximum unit energy consumption (UEC) requirement specified in Regulation 10 CFR 430.32 (z), which sets annual energy consumption for seven different types of battery chargers. The UEC of the charger is expressed as a function of battery energy (Ebatt), which reflects the "useless" energy consumed in all operating modes (i.e. the amount of energy consumed during charging but not transmitted to the battery).

Product range

1, AC (AC) or DC (DC) power charger;

2, consumer electronics containing internal rechargeable batteries;

3. For example: mobile phones, digital cameras, audio/video products, flashlights, sweeping robots and electric toothbrushes.

Voight experts answer common questions for you

1, sample size and test cycle?

        According to the sampling requirement of

2, do we need to register? What are the requirements and cycles?

        Registration is required and the customer is authorized to submit data to our company for a period of 3-4 weeks (starting with the submission of data, excluding the time spent on testing and authorization)

3, what is the difference between California and CEC BC?

        The criteria for determining the results vary from region to region: California CEC is required to meet the energy requirements for charging (CEC-400-2017-002:(W)), while the United States DOE is required for unit energy consumption of the product (EERE-2008-BT-STD-0005-0256).

        But because of the test method, test data can be shared.
